There are a lot of exciting Forza Horizon 6 details to unpack, so let’s get into everything you need to know about your journey to becoming a Horizon Legend in Japan!

Welcome to the Horizon Festival

The Horizon Festival is a celebration of beautiful cars, iconic music and breathtaking locations around the world. In Forza Horizon 6, you will get to experience a place that we've wanted to visit for a very long time: Japan.

When you first arrive in Japan, you don’t start as a Superstar of the Festival, or a racing champion. Nor do you begin as a rookie. Instead, you’ll start out as just a tourist. Forza Horizon 6’s campaign is focused on your journey and building a name for yourself. Along the way, you will meet the Legends of the Horizon Festival and experience authentic stories rooted in Japan’s legendary car culture.

Your first goal is to join the Horizon Festival, and you can do this by completing the Horizon Qualifiers. After that, you'll rise through the ranks, unlocking Wristbands as you complete races and events in faster and more exciting cars.

At the end of each Round, you must prove you're ready to move up by completing spectacular events to unlock your next Wristband. These include classic Horizon Showcases, and new Horizon Rush events where you show off your skills on thrilling obstacle courses, featuring exciting locations such as Tokyo City Docks.

When you finally earn your Gold Wristband, you will receive an invite to access Legend Island – an exclusive region of the world, with unique events, tracks and areas to explore. And once you make it there, it will be a true accomplishment, one that reflects your skills and determination.

Throughout that journey, Japan is yours to explore at your own pace. Exploration is at the heart of Forza Horizon 6, and everything you find on your road trip in Japan is something for you to collect: cars, houses, landmarks, mascots, and more – it’s all tracked in your Collection Journal.

Discover Breathtaking Japan

Japan is the ideal location for Forza Horizon 6, full of beautiful landscapes and stunning contrasts of rural and urban, modern and traditional. It’s also the largest map in a Horizon game yet, and it’s full of verticality, diverse biomes, seasonality and breathtaking driving experiences – all elevated by Japan's unique car culture.

To help our team deliver the most compelling and authentic game possible, we sought out advice and insight from people who've lived with Japanese culture their entire lives. We also travelled to Japan to capture reference material, helping us represent everything that makes this such a special and unique location. This included time lapses of real Japanese skies, photogrammetry of trees and geology, scans of roads and buildings, and things as simple as water kickup and the way fallen cherry blossoms respond to passing cars. We then adapt all that reference material for Horizon’s fun and exciting open world gameplay.

Japan is home to driving experiences unlike anywhere else, and that all begins with the streets. Take your favorite JDM cars on roads inspired by the C1 loop, Gingko Avenue, and mountain passes, like Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma.

Forza Horizon 6 also introduces the biggest urban area yet in a Horizon game. Our Tokyo City is five times larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato – with multiple districts, each featuring its own unique identity. From the suburbs and iconic downtown streets to the docks and industrial zones, we’ve created a city where we hope that every road, every corner and every shortcut will be fun to drive and a delight to explore with your friends.

Be Immersed in Japan’s Diverse Car Culture

Japan's car culture is at the heart of Forza Horizon 6, and it’s one of the many reasons we've been so excited to bring the Horizon Festival to this country.

At launch, we will have more than 550 cars for you to collect and customize, and those cars will have updated Forza Aero, the very much requested ability to paint liveries on windows, and body kits for select vehicles. We've also fully overhauled our roster to be better balanced across all performance classes, including our new R Class specifically introduced for track-focused cars.

Cars are now also affected by the world around them. New cosmetic tire wear means each car responds authentically as you rack up the miles on those iconic Japanese roads. We’ve also introduced updated steering animations with up to 540 degrees of wheel rotation.

Forza Edition cars also return to Forza Horizon 6, and this time, these special cars have been fitted with extreme modifications, making each one a worthy addition to your garage.

With more cars on day one than ever before, Forza Horizon 6 also introduces new ways to expand your car collection as you explore the breathtaking landscapes of Japan. Parked on driveways around the world, you'll encounter Aftermarket Cars, which you can test drive or add to your collection. These cars are always affordable, and they include some extremely rare and unique cars to show off in your garage.

Introducing the 2025 GR GT Prototype

Forza Horizon 6 isn’t just bringing classic JDM to life, but it’s also showcasing some of the newest, most exciting cars in the world – and our cover car is the perfect example.

Meet the 2025 GR GT Prototype – a race-derived road car that combines motorsport performance with road-going excellence, and our game is the ideal place to experience the most modern iteration of Toyota Gazoo Racing's relentless pursuit of Japanese engineering perfection.

The Soundscape of Japan

Cars in Forza Horizon 6 sound better than ever, with a selection of remastered engine audio and more detailed surface interaction – all brought to life by new acoustic modelling technology, simulating the soundscape of the world.

Music is a huge part of the Horizon Festival, and this game features more music than any of our previous games, including exciting Japanese artists, creating the most diverse soundtrack of any Horizon game yet. In addition, to complement the visual contrast of our map, we've captured extensive field recordings across all four seasons in Japan, creating a rich and truly authentic world for you to experience.

Customize Your Garage

In Forza Horizon 6, you'll have new ways to shape that world, with features that let you make a life for yourself in Japan. Each Player House includes a new Customizable Garage, big enough for multiple cars, where you can freely decorate the entire space and create a showroom for your automotive collection. When you're done, you can invite your friends over to see what you built, and you can also download other garage layouts that have been shared by the community.

The ultimate place to express your creativity is the Estate. This Mountain Valley starts off completely empty and overgrown, but once you unlock it, you can build and decorate directly in the open world here – and anything you construct is permanent and visitable by your friends.

Join Your Friends in the Open World

Japan is world-renowned for its iconic car meets, like Daikoku; and inspired by these experiences, Forza Horizon 6 will include new Car Meets in the open world. These are places where you can show off your cars and characters, download tunes and liveries, and even buy a copy of the incredible cars that you see.

Car Meets are also a great opportunity to meet new friends and start a Convoy, so you can head out together and explore Japan, where you'll find classic events, like Street Races and new Touge Battles – iconic night-time races down Japanese mountain passes.

There's also more to do in the open world than ever before, with new shared experiences including co-op LINK skills that are earnable with other players, as well as Drag Meets and Horizon Time Attack Circuits. These are seamlessly part of the open world, with no loads, and no matchmaking. They create a truly social experience for you and your friends, and they even feature an in-world leaderboard.

You can also jump into the Horizon Multiplayer modes you know and love including The Eliminator and nailbiting Hide & Seek, as well as new Spec Racing Championships.

The Forza Horizon community is incredibly creative, making everything from liveries and tuning setups, to race events and scenic locations to explore with our EventLab toolset.

To support your creativity, we've added the ability to start building from anywhere in Forza Horizon 6, as well as other improvements, all of which are also available in the Estate and the Customizable Garage. Stay tuned for more details about those updates in the months ahead.

We also know you love to collaborate with your fellow community members, so in Forza Horizon 6, we're bringing multiplayer building to EventLab. In Horizon CoLab, you and your friends can build anything you can imagine in the open world of Japan, together.
